When I don't have time to review I book--I hope to start doing some research about books and the media. I personally find that I am drawn to books that have been turned into movies/television shows--even if I never knew the show was once a book I end up enjoying it.
L.J. Smith's "Vampire Diaries" series was first published in 1991. (PerezHilton.com is reporting 1993--However the original series was published from 1991-1992) The original books of the series are The Awakening, The Struggle & The Fury. Somewhere during this time, a forth book was added to the original series; Dark Reunion.
Sixteen years later the announcement has arrived of more "Vampire Diaries" novels. "The Vampire Diaries: The Return: Nightfall" was released February 10th, 2009. I thought it was odd for an author to finish a book series for sixteen years and then decide to return to the characters.
That was until I read the post on PerezHilton, and read that The CW has greenlit a television show based on the book series.
Apparently the name of the pilot show will be "Vampire Diaries". The book to television script was created by Kevin

Alloy Entertainment owns the rights to The Vampire Diaries books--I would imagine they will have a say of what will happen with the TV Show. Alloy also owns the rights to CW shows such as Gossip Girl.
What *I* Think;
I am very excited to see what will come of the series. I have been in love with anything to do with vampires since I was a small child. Watching Nosferatu and having the crap scared out of me. Twilight was an awesome addition to my Vampire collection--however Twilight is a nice story--poorly written.
People need to understand and take note--there are books out there that are 100% better then Twilight. Yes, Vampires are all the craze--People will take advantage of that. But for someone like me who loves Vampires in general, I don't see this as a bad thing.

I have never read The Vampire Diaries Series--But they have been around since the 90's, and they are still alive! I do own a copy of The Secret Circle and am looking forward to reading it.
